How to use release agents ?

To get the best results, it is important to use the exact amount of release agent. Often, concrete manufacturers use to much release agent, this results in bug holes, dust, stains etc. The application of a chemical release agent in a microfilm gives you:

To apply a very thin layer of release agent, it is important to use the correct spray technique.

The “Spraying Systems” web-site gives you a lot of useful information on this topic.

Tips that can help you:

Use “flat spray tips”, they give the best droplet size. Spray tips 800039 to 8001 are often used to spray release agents. “Hollow cone” tips give droplets of 40% bigger than the same orifice in “flat spray”, “full cone” tips give up to 100 % bigger droplets.

Identification of  spray tips :  pe 800067   or   110039  or 65015

The first 2 digits or 3 digits indicate the spray angle: 80°/110°/65°(0°-110°)

The rest of the digits indicate the capacity in litres that passes the spray tip at a pressure of 20 bar per minute. So in our example 0.67 , 0.39 and 1.5  litres.

You always need a test to measure the exact amount of release agent that is used because the viscosity and temperature of the release agent have an influence on the final result.

Testing a release agent

When a new release agent is introduced, it’s important to follow a strict procedure to prevent “accidents.

Always test the product for at least 5 runs under the same conditions on the same moulds. It takes up to 3 runs before there no more of the  old release agent in the pores of the mould surface.

After each run, check  and compare with the standard product for:
